Why REOC? PDF Print E-mail

Here are some of the great reasons why students are choosing REOC...

TUITION FREE* LEARNING

You want to continue your education, but you can't afford to and you don't know where to start.  REOC offers tuition free* classes so you can start your future without incurring the costs of college.

PERSONAL GOALS

At REOC you're not just a number.  We care about our students and give our attention to your personal goals.  Our instructors have real-world experience. We don't just hire any instructor. We recruit qualified professionals with industry-specific expertise. So you get the benefit of real-world knowledge and gain the kind of practical insights that can't be learned from a textbook.

CAREER SERVICES

The Career Services Office assists in the employment search. In addition to offering workshops on resumé writing, interview skills, and job search techniques, the staff performs a skills assessment to match you with suitable job openings. Career Services personnel, along with others at the Center, develop relationships with local businesses to help connect REOC graduates with employment opportunities.

COLLEGE PLACEMENT

SUNY Educational Outreach assists both REOC and non-REOC college-bound students. The staff provides information and assistance with college admission procedures, financial aid programs, college survival skills and college preparedness.

COUNSELING

Each student has an assigned Program Counselor, whose job it is to ensure student success both personally and professionally. Program Counselors provide academic advisement as well as assist in referrals and managing day-to-day problems.

FINANCING YOUR INDEPENDENCE (FYI)

Many programs at REOC incorporate the FYI Program directly into the program instruction. This instructional program guides students through Basic Banking, Credit Report, Budgeting, Credit Management, Savings & Investing. Offered to community groups as a free service.

REOC CERTIFICATES

Upon successful completion of a program, graduates receive a certificate endorsed by the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center and its sponsor, The College at Brockport.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

There are many Center-sponsored activities that are afforded the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center student throughout his or her educational duration at the Center and affiliate sites. These include: annual Career and College Fairs, guest lecturers, ethnic celebrations, fi eld trips, achievement awards, voter registration drives, alumni gatherings, internships, and more.

WORKFORCE PREPARATION

Each student is required to participate in a computer-adaptive employment skills software applications program (ATTAIN lab). Included in this program are appropriate attitude, timeliness, communication, responsibility, appearance, personal planning for emergencies, budgeting, stress management and teamwork. Individual programs may also include program-specific computer enhancements to individual curriculum.
